How to resize an image on iPhone

By Sekora Studios · Updated

To resize an image on iPhone in your browser, enter the required pixel width and height, choose whether to keep the whole photo or crop its edges, and download the result.

Steps

  1. Open Resize Image in your iPhone browser. Choose a supported JPG, PNG or WebP file using the upload control.
  2. For an exact width and height, enter both dimensions. To make a square image, open Make an Image Square and enter the same value for both sides, such as 1080 × 1080 or 512 × 512.
  3. Choose Fit without cropping to retain the complete photo with padding, or Crop to fill when the image should cover the canvas.
  4. Check the preview. Under More options, select the output format and padding background if needed.
  5. Complete the resize and download the image. Follow your browser’s save prompt, then select that downloaded copy when uploading elsewhere.

Do I need fewer pixels or fewer KB?

A request for 600 × 600 pixels means the form needs a particular width and height. A request for less than 50 KB concerns file size. Resizing can reduce the amount of image data, but it does not guarantee a byte limit.

For a form that specifies both, set the framing and dimensions first, then compress the result. Check the final dimensions again because target-size compression may reduce them to meet a small limit.

How can I keep the photo from looking stretched?

Use Fit without cropping when the whole image must remain visible. A wide photo placed inside a square canvas will have space above and below it. Crop to fill removes edges instead. Stretch changes the proportions and can make faces look wider or taller.

Increasing a small image to a larger pixel size does not recover detail that was never captured. Keep the source copy so you can try another size without repeatedly editing an exported JPG.

What if my photo will not open?

These steps cover JPG, PNG and WebP. If the file picker supplies a different format, such as HEIC, prepare a supported copy before uploading. Changing a filename extension does not convert the file.

More questions

Can I make a 1080 × 1920 image on iPhone?

Yes. The 1080 × 1920 preset creates a portrait canvas. Choose Fit to keep the whole photo or Crop to fill to remove edges.

Will this replace my original photo?

The tool creates a downloadable result. Keep the original and use the downloaded copy for your form or post.
