How to rotate an image by 90 or 180 degrees
By Sekora Studios · Updated
Rotate an image by 90 degrees to fix a sideways photo, or 180 degrees to turn an upside-down picture upright. A quarter-turn swaps its pixel width and height.
Steps
- Open Rotate Image and choose a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
- Choose Rotate left or Rotate right for a 90-degree turn. Use 180° for an upside-down picture.
- Check the preview. Use Reset if you want to start again.
- Choose a download format under More options, then finish the edit and download the rotated image.
Does rotating crop the image?
This tool uses quarter-turn rotations and retains the complete picture. A 1200 × 800 image becomes 800 × 1200 after a 90-degree turn. A 180-degree turn keeps the original width and height.
If the receiving service requires a particular landscape or portrait size, rotate first, then resize or crop to that destination.
When should I flip instead?
Rotation turns the picture around its center. A horizontal flip mirrors left and right, including lettering. If a selfie simply faces the opposite direction, use Flip Image and check any writing in the preview.
This tool rotates in 90-degree steps and has a 180-degree option. It does not provide arbitrary-angle horizon correction or a 3D perspective transformation.
How do I avoid repeated quality loss?
Keep the source and make the final edit from it. PNG avoids a further lossy encoding step; exporting JPG again can introduce additional artifacts. Changing the output format cannot repair artifacts already present in the original.
More questions
Can I rotate an image on a phone?
Yes. The same controls work in a mobile browser. Choose a supported file, preview the turn and use the browser’s download prompt.
Will a 180-degree rotation mirror text?
No. It turns the text upside down along with the picture. A horizontal flip mirrors the letter shapes.
