How to convert PNG to JPG
By Sekora Studios · Updated
Convert PNG to JPG when an upload requires JPEG or when a photo does not need transparency. Any transparent pixels must become a solid background because JPG cannot store transparency.
Steps
- Open PNG to JPG and select the PNG file.
- If the image has transparent areas, choose Background for transparent pixels. White is the starting choice.
- Adjust JPG quality if needed. Inspect small text, logos and edges in the preview.
- Convert the file and download the JPG. Use that new file for your upload.
Why did my transparent background turn white?
JPG has no alpha channel for transparent pixels. The converter fills those areas with the background color you choose. If the image must remain transparent, keep it as PNG or use WebP instead.
A transparent logo can look fine on a white page but develop an obvious rectangle on a dark page after conversion. Choose the color of its destination background, or retain a transparent format.
Will JPG be smaller than PNG?
For a photographic image, a lossy JPG can be smaller than a PNG. A simple graphic or screenshot may behave differently. Compare the downloaded file sizes. A different extension does not guarantee a smaller file.
JPG compression can soften small lettering and create halos around sharp edges. For a screenshot that people need to read, keep a PNG copy. If an upload insists on JPG, start with higher quality and check the text.
Does conversion change the dimensions?
This converter keeps the image’s pixel width and height. To meet an exact dimension requirement, resize separately. If the requirement is a KB limit, use compression after conversion and inspect the final result.

Can I rename .png to .jpg?
Renaming changes the filename, not the encoded image. Use a converter to create a real JPEG file.
Are JPG and JPEG different formats?
JPG and JPEG are filename extensions for the same image format. An upload may specify an extension, so follow its instructions.
